Livonia is in for a treat of the grilled and chilled variety.
A Dairy Queen is being planned for an old Steak ‘n Shake at 17200 Middlebelt Road, according to city records. It will sit next door to a Walgreen’s just north of Six Mile Road on Livonia’s east side.

Franchise agreements for the soft-serve ice cream titan show the Haidous brothers have owned and operated DQs in Taylor, Hillsdale, Dearborn, Coldwater and Northville Township. The family enterprise includes Amane, Hussein and Talal Haidous.
Site plans for their Livonia location are set to be considered by the city’s planning commission Tuesday night. According to those plans, the franchisees plan to redevelop the former Steak ‘n Shake by reconfiguring the parking lot and drive thru, adding an outdoor patio and remodeling the restaurant’s interior and outdoor exterior.
Livonia already has an abundance of Dairy Queens. There are 19 other DQ locations currently up and running within 10 miles of the Middlebelt Road store, including a treat center about three miles north in Farmington Hills.
Another Livonia location being built by a father-son ownership duo is opening soon on Plymouth Road.
The multinational food chain famous for its blizzard cakes, fudge sundaes and brownie cupfections has over 7,000 different locations in 20 different countries. More than 150 of those restaurants are sited in Michigan, according to DQ’s website.
