According to a recently submitted permit application, Sightglass Coffee Roasters — a California-based coffee shop chain that operates four locations across Los Angeles and San Francisco — plans to expand.
Bringing a new shop to 2169 University Avenue in Berkeley, the business will land near establishments such as the cafe Brown’s, Marugame Udon, and Yali’s Cafe.
What Now San Francisco reached out to the concept’s co-owner, Erin Clossey, to inquire about her plans for the spot, but she could not provide additional information before publication.
“Sightglass began as an aspiration to source, produce, and share distinctive, quality-focused coffees. In 2009, we began with a small, rickety service cart in San Francisco’s SoMa district. Equipped with a few Chemex pots and a leaky vintage 2-group espresso machine, we served coffee to the neighborhood just behind a roll-up garage door housed in a sturdy 1914-built warehouse,” Sightglass shares on its website.
The statement continues, “Two years and many coffees later, the entirety of this warehouse would become our production roastery, a dynamic & unconventional coffee bar, a community gathering space, and our company headquarters.”
An opening date has not been announced yet. Stay tuned for updates.
