Modern Bread & Bagel is planning to open at 130 Duane Street, formerly home to the Duane Street Hotel, according to the Tribeca Citizen. This will be the brand’s fourth location in the city and its seventh overall.

Modern Bread & Bagel serves 100% gluten-free and nut-free baked goods, which means the menu is safe for those with dietary restrictions. They serve kettle-boiled, ancient grain bagels alongside dips, a variety of cream cheeses and house-smoked salmon, according to the website. In addition, they are open for breakfast and lunch, serving a full menu of build-your-own bagel sandwiches, salads, bowls and pastries. They also serve espresso drinks.

“Everything is baked fresh daily and made in-house — from our vegan focaccia to our dairy-free rustic bread and vegan seeded multigrain,” the Modern Bread & Bagel website states.

Founder Orly Gottesman first gained an interest in gluten-free baking when her husband was diagnosed with Celiac disease while they were dating. Later, they moved to Paris and she began to take classes in French baking. She attended the Le Cordon Bleu Culinary Arts Institute in Australia to hone her skills, and then launched a retail product called Blends by Orly, gluten-free flour mixes designed for different pastries and baked goods.

In 2019, Gottesman opened Modern Bread & Bagel on the Upper West Side, using her gluten-free blends to produce New York-style bagels and other baked goods. Since then, she has opened locations on the Upper East Side and in Chelsea. The brand also now has three California locations in Woodland Hills, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills.

The Upper East Side location also offers pizza on their menu. The brand also launched Modern @ Night, which offers a dinner menu with items like flatbreads, fish tacos, sandwiches and bowls.

As of now, it is unclear what the precise menu will include for the new Tribeca location. An opening timeline also remains unclear at this time.

What Now New York reached out to Gottesman for more details but was unable to obtain a comment prior to the time of publication.
