A larger-than-life chicken mascot has landed on U Street, perched proudly atop the city’s newest Peruvian fast-casual restaurant: Lucky Pollo. The grand opening took place May 9th at 5:30 PM at 1357B U Street NW, kicking off with a chicken-eating contest where the winner took home a $1,000 cash prize.

Zach Renovátes, a co-owner of several nearby nightlife venues, is also one of the partners behind Lucky Pollo.“Lucky Pollo was always meant to be fun and a little provocative,” Renovátes said in a statement.“Our chef brought cherished, generations-old recipes from his Peruvian heritage—and we’re thrilled to share them with Washington, D.C.”

The space was designed by New York City based creative Jasin Cadic, known for theatrical environments infused with street art energy. Chicken figurines line the ceiling—some sporting biker hats, others rocking bright green hair, and even a pair sweetly holding hands. The walls are alive with Keith-Haring inspired art, while the cheeky “Get Lucky” tagline complements the playful neon logo: a leather-booted chicken in a hat, sitting on a horseshoe.

Lucky Pollo’s signature dish is infused with over 13 unique herbs and marinated for a full 24 hours. This process ensures each chicken is juicy, tender, and slow-roasted to perfection over oak wood charcoal. Every bite is a tribute to authentic Peruvian culture, transporting guests straight to the heart of Peru. Guests can dig into crispy yuca fries, golden french fries, and white rice all paired with a bold lineup of house-made Peruvian sauces. Comfort food lovers will appreciate creamy mac and cheese and rich mashed potatoes, while lighter options include fresh salads, healthy bowls, and flavorful wraps.

Diners can also enjoy the convenience of online ordering, a rewards program, and in-store touch screens for fast, seamless service. With Lucky Pollo now open to the public, U Street’s newest dining destination invites everyone to come for the chicken—and stay for the experience. This casual, Peruvian-inspired haven blends bold flavors with playful design, serving up memorable meals late into the night and bringing the brand’s vibrant spirit to life with every bite.

Lucky Pollo Peruvian Chicken Hours of Operation: Tuesday–Thursday: 11 AM – 11 PM; Friday & Saturday: 11 AM – 3:30 AM; Sunday: 11 AM – 11 PM
