Finding a cafe that delights parents and children in equal measure can seem like an impossible task. A new concept heading to Bethesda plans to rectify that problem; Chez Mamie, described as a “European-style play café and wine bar” will be bringing something for visitors of all ages to the area next year, reports local media outlet Moco Show.

Future guests will be able to stop into Chez Mamie at 4841 Del Ray Avenue, in the space that previously housed Baruch Cafe. Press materials provided to What Now DC provides a clear and succinct look at what the concept has in store, saying: “It is a café where children play, and parents stay. Three skills-based zones — Le Jardin Secret, Les Premiers Pas and La Cour — are grouped by developmental stages rather than age, and they are all visible from every seat in the café. No screens. No ball pits. Natural materials throughout.”

While the play aspects are, of course, important, readers more invested in Chez Mamie’s dining potential have plenty to look forward to. The concept has partnered with four capable companies to fill local stomachs. Lost Sock Roasters will be providing coffee, Boulangerie Christophe will be serving pastries, as will Bien Cuit, and BabyCat Brewery will be pouring beers for the over 21 crowd.

Set to open in early 2027, Chez Mamie will be closed on Mondays but open Tuesday through Wednesday from 9am to 3pm, Thursday and Friday from 9am to 7:30pm, and from 8am to 7:30pm on weekends.
