A fresh take on Mexican cuisine is coming to Michigan Avenue, just five minutes from downtown Lansing.

La Cocina De Lulu is set to open in the former El Catrin Taco Shop space, which closed in late 2024. The new restaurant promises a modern Mexican kitchen experience with a focus on authentic flavors and convenient service, including a drive-through.

Guests can expect classic dishes like guisados, tacos, and burritos, all served with a contemporary twist.

“Our modern drive-through kitchen brings authentic Mexican flavors to your neighborhood, perfect for both leisurely meals and busy lunch breaks,” the restaurant’s website states.

Owners Saul Martinez and Lourdes Casillas also run Taqueria El Chaparrito, but Casillas told What Now Detroit that La Cocina De Lulu will offer something entirely new.

“It’s going to be different,” she said. Customers should expect “something new that’s not already in Lansing.”

While an official opening date hasn’t been announced, Casillas is hopeful the restaurant will open its doors in June.

To stay updated, visitors can click “Join Our VIP Familia” on the restaurant’s website for early access to grand opening details, exclusive tastings and special offers. Guests who add their birthday will also receive a personalized birthday treat.
