Big changes are coming to the storefront next to Bill’s Beer Garden.
Literati Bookstore is moving into the former Downtown Home and Garden space at 210 S Ashley Street. This comes after speculation of what would fill the space after the business’s lease came to an end. The team at Literati does not yet have an opening date.
The bookstore, currently at 124 E Washington Street, first opened in 2013, a project from locals Hilary and Mike Gustafson. Those in Ann Arbor and around Southeast Michigan have since sought out the store, and it has become a staple of Ann Arbor’s downtown. The business was recently voted best bookstore by The Michigan Daily for the 11th year in a row.
“We believe an independent bookstore is one of the few places people can actually surprise themselves and discover something completely unexpected: A new voice, world, or idea,” says the description on their website.
The store sells books of every category, including children’s novels, science fiction and history books. Shoppers can also pre-order books, as well as signed novels. Events like book clubs and visiting authors also happen at the space.
Literati’s team will soon move book shelves into the building, and it is noticeably more space than their current address. The spot next to Bill’s Beer Garden is also at the intersection of W Liberty Street, and on the same side of the street as concepts such as Recess Cafe and Aperitivo. This is in the heart of downtown Ann Arbor, and only a few blocks from University of Michigan – Main Campus.
