About the National Puerto Rican Day Parade
Started in the year 1958 in replacement of the former Hispanic Day Parade, the event has seen six decades of success. Bringing new themes each year, the parade committee has decided on yet another beautiful theme this year.
The theme this year is “Plantando Bandera,” which translates to “planting a flag.” It represents the Boricua community’s pride in what they have given to society. It is a celebration of their presence, their contributions to society, and their dedication to their culture. Puerto Rican artist Jorge Rafael Calderón has designed the theme image for this year.
The parade honors the members of its community who have left a mark on a global scale. It has also become one of the largest parades in the nation.
