A luxury men’s barbershop is gearing up to expand its New York City presence, bringing its polished grooming experience to a new neighborhood.
Made Man Barbershop, founded by Sam Chulpayev, will open at 530 9th Ave. in Midtown West. The new shop will join the existing locations in Chelsea, the Meatpacking District, Flatiron, the Garment District and Greenwich Village. Each location also has a former Made Man employee as a partner.
“Every single location has a personal touch. Every location we put together ourselves. We like to keep it traditional with a touch of modern,” Chulpayev told Whatnow New York City.
Chulpayev started Made Man Barbershop after recognizing a lack of pampering for men, something he believes they deserve, too.
“Men remain beings who are not very much in touch with themselves. One of the first things we try to do is get our client to forget about their outside world. Let’s concentrate on you, this is your time. It’s our way of showing men some love,” he said.
This upcoming location will follow the same approach. Men will enjoy their cuts in 1930s antique barber chairs, adding to the shop’s full old-school barbershop experience.
Services cater to all hair types, from fades and tapers to scissor cuts, buzz cuts and long-hair styling. Each cut includes a head wash, neck shave, massage and hot towel. Clients can also enjoy a complimentary coffee or latte, giving men the kind of extra hospitality often associated with a glass of champagne at women’s salons.
“The conversation may be different. The interests may be different, but the vibe and the feel is the same. We men and women both want to have a nice, stimulating conversation, whether it’s sharing your intimate stuff or gossiping,” he said.
Walk-ins are welcome based on availability, but the shop encourages customers to book an appointment.
Chulpayev looks forward to serving another neighborhood.
“I’m most excited about bringing Made Men to a new area that is not familiar with us yet and also seeing those familiar faces. We’re big enough to represent but we’re small enough to feel like we’re still a mom and pop shop. We genuinely care about how you feel,” he said.
Made Man Barbershop plans to open in mid-to-late September. Visit the website and follow along on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates.
