El Centro D.F. bid farewell to the Georgetown community in a heartfelt message on June 17. Expressing gratitude for the support of its loyal guests, the restaurant’s goodbye note read, “It has been an honor to serve you over the years in such a special neighborhood.”

Located at 1218 Wisconsin Ave NW, the beloved restaurant became popular for serving innovative Mexican dishes and hand-crafted Latin cocktails. El Centro D.F. served Georgetown since 2013 in its expansive 2-story space and much-adored open-air back patio.

Led by renowned Chef Richard Sandoval, the lively Mexican cantina & tequila bar’s final day of service will be June 29. Sandoval of Richard Sandoval Hospitality is a global pioneer in contemporary Latin cuisine, known for his ‘made from scratch’ approach and passion for combining Latin ingredients with modern culinary techniques.

The internationally acclaimed chef, whose hospitality business spans 60 locations across 4 continents, is revered for elevating Latin American dining.

What Led to Closure

Located in the former Third Edition space, El Centro D.F. operated daily from three lively spaces, popularly referred to as the casual Taqueria, underground Tequileria, and open-air patio.

With its lease coming to a close, the business decided to cease operations for good.

Aside from offering authentic Mexican comfort food and signature Latin cocktails, the establishment regularly hosted events that kept its patrons hooked. Evening Happy Hours throughout the week, Bottomless Brunch on the weekends, and all-day rotating taco specials on Taco Tuesday became signature offerings of the restaurant.

June 29 will bring the Georgetown chapter for El Centro D.F. to a close. Nonetheless, the restaurant plans to end on a high note. On Instagram, the eatery said, “Keep an eye out—some exciting things are coming for our final two weeks. Let’s say goodbye the El Centro way!”

The closure announcement elicited profound reactions from the restaurant regulars. Some expressed sadness, while others conveyed excitement, looking forward to making final memories before the last day. As the farewell note said, “Goodbye, for now,” patrons will be keeping an eye on what’s next for El Centro D.F.
