A popular pie shop has closed for the summer but will be back with potentially a different business model.
Sister Pie owner Lisa Ludwinski announced on June 8 her pie shop at 8066 Kercheval Avenue is officially closed for the time being. The pie shop has been in the West Village neighborhood since 2015. Ludwinski told What Now Detroit this is for “reconfiguration and rest.”
Ludwinski is a 2019 James Beard Award finalist, and she is known for her unique takes on pie flavors. There will still be pop-ups and teaching baking classes, but until there is a reopening this will be the capacity of Sister Pie serving the community. She said she would be giving updates on the future of the pie shop on social media.
“Although the spirit of Sister Pie is alive and well, I’ve arrived at the conclusion that the business isn’t working in its current state,” Ludwinski wrote.
Sister Pie has catered for weddings along with serving in house. They offer 9-inch pies that can serve eight people, as well as a dessert table with cookies and shortbread, Strawberry galette, rhubarb rosemary streusel and mocha are just a few of the pie flavors offered.
According to their website, Sister Pie will be reopening at the same location on Kercheval Avenue. They are still operating pop-ups and other events to keep up with overhead costs
What Now Detroit has reached out to the owner, and this article may be updated.
