Half Fast Subs, a beloved sandwich institution on Boulder’s University Hill, is aiming to reopen in late summer, according to the Daily Camera. A devastating fire forced the shop, located at 1215 13th St. in the heart of The Hill, to shut its doors earlier this year.
Owner Fred Liskowski confirmed to What Now Denver that he hopes to welcome patrons again by late August or early September. The eatery has been closed since January 5, when an electrical fire broke out in the building and efforts to put it out resulted in extensive water damage throughout the entire structure, CBS Colorado reported.
It was originally slated to reopen in June, but all of the electrical systems had to be replaced. Liskowski acted quickly to launch a GoFundMe campaign to support employees in the interim; as of late June, it raised over half of its $15,000 goal. While some of the team will be returning, he will be hiring new staff members around the end of July.
Half Fast Subs has been a staple in Boulder since opening in 1996, becoming famous for its sprawling menu of over 100 sandwich options and its signature 32-ounce “Strong Island Iced Tea” served in a personal pitcher. Liskowski purchased the business from the founders in 2018.
“We’re all extremely excited to get back to making sandwiches and serving pitchers to the Boulder community,” he told the publication.
