TRVE began in Denver in 2011 and expanded to Asheville in March 2024. Known for its bold brews and laid-back vibe, the taproom has long been a go-to for Denver locals. More than that, it has been a place where Heavy Metal fans found a home. Unfortunately, it is soon to close, bringing an end to its wonderful journey.

The news was announced through Instagram. The message reflects the difficult decision behind the closure. Despite facing numerous challenges over the years, the brewery managed to keep both locations open. But now, it is time to say goodbye with good memories and great times.

“It is with a heavy heart that I’m announcing that this is the end for the TRVE taprooms,” writes founder Nick Nunns. “It hasn’t been an easy choice, but this brewery has run its course, and for a huge number of reasons, it’s the right time to send this thing off into the lake trailed by a fiery arrow.”

Looking Back at the Journey

In the post, Nunns reflects on the brewery’s evolution since its early days. Since launching in 2011, he has navigated a journey of trial and error.

“In 2011, with a mediocre business plan, no professional brewing experience, and way less money than I needed, I opened TRVE with no grander machinations than making some good beer and listening to the music I liked.”

But the friendships and people he met along the way shaped his dream into a success. Good beer and music started this journey, but now he leaves with some of the best memories. Among the people who helped him along the way, he writes a special thanks to one member in particular.

“I constantly say that our beer got good when I stopped making it,” he writes. “So much of our notoriety is largely thanks to Zach, who truly made our beer program what it is today. I am so sad that we are having to do this when the beer coming out of Asheville is some of the best you’ve made in your career. I hope your continued quest for perfection in your art never ends.”

He also writes a special thanks to his wife, who has stayed to help with this dream through all the hurdles. He writes, “More than anyone, I have to thank my wife, who helped Zach and me by keeping the wheels on this thing through crisis after crisis after crisis. I’m so sorry it was so hard for so long. I love you.”

Goodbye to the Community and a Final Invite

Nunns then goes on to show his sincerest thanks to all those who have been a part of this journey. He offered heartfelt thanks to everyone, from loyal regulars to the team behind the bar and brewery.

“I cannot have done any of this alone; my sincerest and deepest thanks to everyone who made their indelible marks on TRVE,” he writes. “From the maniacs in the brewery to the masochists behind the bar, you were all such an immense part of why this place was what it was. I always wanted so much more for you all. Equal thanks go out to all the patrons who called this place home. Heavy Metal Cheers, it certainly was. Y’all kept the lights on, hell or high water.”

While the post itself does not mention any specifics about the closing date, there is a clue in the comments. With everyone asking about their last day, he mentions that it will be on Saturday, July 12. Both the Denver and Asheville locations will close on this date.

He writes, “Y’all have until Saturday, July 12th, our last day at both locations, to be degenerates alongside us one more time.”

It’s been a memorable ride for Nunns and the team that helped build TRVE’s legacy. In the end, TRVE became a community hub that resonated with locals and metal fans alike. As the community bids goodbye to this special spot, they gather to share their love on social media.
