Downtown Las Vegas was hit late last year with the sad news that its beloved Downtown Cocktail Room was closing its doors permanently. The absence of this local institution has been felt, as posts on Reddit.com’s R/Vegas message board (and elsewhere) appear asking, “Where to go since Downtown Cocktail Room closed?”.
Well, now there’s good news: a new bar is planned for the old Downtown Cocktail Room Space, and behind it are two local bartenders, Daniel Yang and Evan Hosaka.
This week, What Now came across documents submitted to the Las Vegas Planning Commission for Daphne’s Las Vegas, a new lounge concept. The request was for an extension of the former bar’s liquor license.
“The concept of Daphne’s is an elevated lounge with DJ spinning on weekends within the front portion of the lease space,” says a letter submitted with the documents. “The smaller area towards the back of the suite will be a more intimate ‘speakeasy style’ craft bar. This bar does not publish a menu; drinks are purely ‘bartenders’ choice.’ These craft cocktails are made with fresh juice and premium mixers at affordable pricing. The décor will be a modern minimalist design with a focus on concrete and wood notes with highlights of greenery to balance nature with brutalism.”
As it happens, Vital Vegas had reported on this news already in April. It shares a note of confidence in Yang and Hosaka’s ability to fill the shoes left by Downtown Cocktail Room.
“Yang and Hosaka have serious mixology chops having come from the Venetian’s trio of swanky lounges—Dorsey, Rosina and Electra—also known as ‘The Cocktail Collective.’”
Stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
