The owners of Local Bottle Shop, a beer and wine bar that opened in Concord last year, are bringing a new concept to the Downtown Concord area. The team will open the Concord Trading Post at 37 Union Street South. Co-owner Dawon Millwood told What Now Charlotte that they are targeting an opening at the end of August in the approximately 1,500-square-foot space.
Millwood said that the concept stemmed from the gaps they saw in the Downtown Concord market. Through the Local Bottle Shop, they heard what customers wanted to see in Concord, and they started brainstorming how they could transform those desires into reality.
“Through that, we’ve learned what our customers are looking for in downtown and we’ve heard feedback about people needing more food [options],” Millwood said. “So we said: Why don’t we do that?”
They began to conceptualize the concept last year and bought the building at 37 Union Street South.
The Concord Trading Post is designed to be an affordable option for locals looking for a breakfast and lunch spot. The menu will find strength in its simplicity, with offerings like New York-style bagels, egg and bacon sandwiches and wraps, as well as grab-and-go sandwich options for lunch and dinner. There will also be a small market featuring chips, granola bars and locally-sourced food items, along with some local take-and-bake offerings.
The building that will house the Concord Trading Post dates back to around 1900 and will have both old and new elements. Customers can expect to see touches like an exposed brick wall, as well as teal and copper colors. The spot is currently under construction.
“It’s vintage but warm, with pops of color,” Millwood said. “It’s going to be homey — a vintage industrial vibe.”
The trading post pays homage to Concord’s roots. Historically, the intersection at Union and Cabarrus served as an area where people would bring goods to trade.
“We want people to come and meet and see their friends and get their goods from us as well as other local food producers. It’s a mixture of old with new,” Millwood said. “Concord is growing and we’re going in an awesome direction, but we want to pay homage to what Concord’s roots are.”
Millwood said that the Concord Trading Post will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
