RoCo Wine & Spirits is shaking things up in West Sacramento‘s Westbridge Plaza.
Just a couple of months back, founder and CEO Rohit Nayyar announced on social media that he would be closing RoCo Taproom. “Let’s be real — the craft beer boom has slowed, and the industry just isn’t what it once was,” he wrote. “But this isn’t goodbye to RoCo… It’s a transformation.”
On May 17, 2025, the taproom at 2220 Lake Washington Blvd, Suite 120 poured its last beer. In its place, Nayyar is opening a speakeasy-style bar called Whiskey Business, promising “the largest whiskey and agave selection around,” expertly crafted cocktails, and an ever-changing lineup of immersive experiences.
In addition to the standout drink program, the new venue will offer weekly spirit tastings, cocktail classes, and workshops designed to deepen your appreciation and knowledge of spirits and mixology.
“We’ve secured one of the hardest licenses in the state to get, and we’re converting the current Tap Room into a full bar,” Nayyar noted. It’s unclear if the speakeasy will also serve food alongside the drinks.
Whiskey Business will host its grand opening on September 27, perfectly timed to follow RoCo Wine & Spirits’ 15th anniversary in West Sacramento. “We’re creating a new hub for learning, sipping, and celebrating all things booze — and we’re calling it Whiskey Business,” continued Nayyar.
Meanwhile, the entrepreneur is doubling down on his mission to keep independent liquor stores thriving. He’ll launch RoCo Folsom at the American River Plaza on August 30, expanding his reach and championing small businesses in the face of big-box and online competitors.
“For 25+ years, I’ve poured my heart into creating one of the best retailers for spirits, wine & beer in the USA,” Nayyar wrote on LinkedIn. “I’ve seen what works. I’ve seen where we’ve fallen behind. And I refuse to let the independent liquor store fade into history as big-box chains and e-commerce giants take over.”
With a spirited new speakeasy and a second shop on the way, it’s clear that RoCo isn’t just keeping up—it’s raising the bar for independent liquor retail in Northern California.
