Sound Advice, a proposed hi-fi bar, would fill nearly 2,300 square feet at The Diggs, 1800 Third St, in downtown Sacramento’s biggest current adaptive reuse project. Jose Medina is the listed applicant for the conditional use permit now being processed by the city’s community development department. Medina told What Now he has no comment at this time, saying he’ll be available to give a public statement possibly in December.
Layout plans included in the application show a central U-shaped bar, a DJ booth, a lounge area, bench and table seating, a prep area and restrooms, positioned near the southeast corner of the building, right off the street. Medina already operates Legend Has It, a hi-fi bar at 410 L St. in Downtown Sacramento, and city records list the new project under the name “Sound Advice HiFi Alcohol Sales,” pointing to a similar concept for the new location. Hi-fi bars typically pair curated music and listening lounges with a full bar menu.
According to the Sacramento Business Journal, developer Heller Pacific is converting the 204,800 square foot former office building into 133 apartments, along with self storage units and more than 10,700 square feet of commercial space, at a project cost of roughly $19.5 million. Heller Pacific acquired the building in late 2024 for $5 million. Company president Mike Heller didn’t comment directly on Sound Advice but said there’s a lot of excitement around the project overall.
