Popular Charleston Eatery Cleats to Close Its Doors Soon

Located at The Refinery in Charleston, Cleats was founded by Jeremiah Schenzel in 2024. The pub featured large communal tables and multiple TVs for sports viewing. Its stadium-style décor created a lively atmosphere for watching the game.

Menu highlights included wings, Creative Dawgs, the Pit Beef Hot Sammie, and a variety of sandwiches and drinks.

The closure, however, came after nearly a year and a half of the restaurant’s run amid largely positive reviews.

The restaurant announced its closure on social media social media. Owners Jeremiah and Jill Schenzel are shifting their focus to their catering business, Daps, which has an exciting partnership lined up.

In an Instagram post, Cleats noted that the restaurant industry is always evolving, and growth often comes with tough decisions.

“As many of you know, the restaurant business is always evolving, and with growth comes tough decisions. While closing Cleats doors wasn’t part of the original plan, a unique opportunity came our way that we simply couldn’t pass up,” the post said.

Thanking loyal customers and staff, Cleats said this isn’t a goodbye, just a new chapter in their journey. As Cleats prepares to close on August 30, Charleston locals will remember it as a lively spot for sports and sandwiches.
