Tacos Victor, a well-known taco restaurant recognized for serving some of Montreal’s best tacos, has temporarily closed after suffering a fire at its Saint-Henri location at 4280 Notre-Dame St W.

Owner Victor Soto announced the incident in a Facebook post shared with the restaurant’s followers. While an exact reopening timeline has not yet been confirmed, Soto expressed hope and determination to rebuild. The restaurant, a staple in the neighborhood, is expected to return with its signature offerings and strong community presence.

Tacos Victor has previously faced challenges, including a break-in and vandalism incident in 2016. In both cases, the Saint-Henri community rallied behind the restaurant, with residents and businesses offering support and encouragement. The recent fire marks another difficult chapter, but the outpouring of messages online signals the restaurant’s ongoing significance in the area.

Founded by Soto, Tacos Victor reflects his lifelong dream, rooted in his upbringing in Mexico City. The restaurant has long served as more than just a place to eat, functioning as a community hub and cultural space for the local community. Its reputation for quality tacos and a welcoming environment helped establish a loyal customer base across the city.

While details about the damage and timeline for reconstruction have not been publicly shared, Soto has made it clear that the restaurant will return. His message on social media emphasized both gratitude and commitment, resonating with supporters across Montreal.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Tacos Victor has suffered a fire,” according to the announcement on social media. “This place wasn’t just a restaurant, it was my home, my dream, and most of all a meeting point with all of you who became my family. The flames took material things, but they couldn’t extinguish the will, the passion, or the affection I have for this project and for each of you. I promise I will come back, we will come back stronger, with the same flavor and an even bigger heart. Thank you for all your support, for your kind words, and for always being by my side.”
