It looks like a Mexican restaurant in Boston’s South End is rebranding into an Italian eatery.

Burro Bar, a modern Mexican eatery located at 1357 Washington Street, appears to be rebranding as a second Posto location, according to a report from Boston Restaurant Talk. Both restaurants fall under Joe Cassinelli‘s Alpine Restaurant Group, a hospitality company that’s also behind The Painted Burro chain in Brookline, Somerville, Cambridge, and Waltham.

Founded in 2009, Posto has built a loyal following with its Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas, handmade pastas, and Italian-inspired cocktails. The restaurant relocated from Davis Square to Assembly Row last year, where it continues to serve standout dishes like meatball pizza, bolognese, and ribeye steak. Diners can expect a similarly indulgent menu at the new South End outpost.

Burro Bar first opened in 2017, offering contemporary Mexican fare and an impressive tequila selection. While it’s not yet clear when the rebrand will take effect, the change marks a notable shift in the South End dining scene.

What Now Boston has reached out to Alpine Restaurant Group representatives for additional details and will update this page as more information becomes available.
