A local restaurateur is cooking up something new in North Woburn.

Peabody resident Nicholas Houvardas, the longtime owner of Nick’s Place in Lexington, is transforming the former Flip the Bird space at 880 Main St into a new eatery called Mad Matt’s Pizza & Roast Beef, according to the Daily Times Chronicle.

During a recent City Council meeting, officials unanimously approved a minor modification request for the project. The petitioner said no major renovations are planned, and the setup and menu will mirror Houvardas’s Nick’s Place location in Burlington.

“We have another restaurant in Burlington off of Cambridge Street and it will basically be the same,” he explained. “We’re not looking to touch anything inside or do any remodeling or construction.”

Houvardas has been serving up pizza and roast beef sandwiches for more than 30 years, expanding from his original Lexington shop to Burlington several years ago. Mad Matt’s will continue that tradition of hearty, no-frills comfort food in Woburn.

Per city requirements, the restaurant will operate from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., maintain several outdoor trash receptacles, and have staff regularly clear litter from the parking lot. The business will also be required to retain a pest control company to manage rodent activity.

Houvardas did not immediately respond to What Now Boston‘s requests for comment.
