The Robo Lounge, a live music and coffee lounge concept from veteran impresario Scott May, is getting ready to open in Ottawa at 275 Carling Avenue.
The company’s newest venue is located on the ground floor of The Clemow, a rental tower designed for adults aged 50 and older, according to the Ottawa Citizen. The opening date is set for December 1, and preparations are underway to transform the space into an upscale yet approachable piano bar. Guests can expect morning coffee service, a full menu of food and beverages, and live performances in the evening, complete with a grand piano and stage setup.
May also operates Bar Robo, a small cafe and music venue that operated on Somerset Street before relocating to Queen Street Fare, where it continues to serve coffee and host live acts. The new Robo Lounge aims to build on that success by offering a larger, more versatile space that combines daytime cafe culture with evening entertainment. May, who resides in The Clemow, said the idea was inspired by the community and its social atmosphere.
Robo Lounge will be open to the public, not just residents of The Clemow. The venue will emphasize inclusivity, mirroring Bar Robo’s commitment to fostering diversity and creativity within Ottawa’s arts and music scene.
With its combination of coffee, cocktails, and live performances, Robo Lounge is positioned to become a distinctive addition to The Glebe’s cultural and nightlife landscape, offering locals and visitors alike a place to unwind and enjoy curated entertainment in a relaxed, modern setting.
“Part of the appeal for us is the demographic of the building,” May tells the Ottawa Citizen. “They’re 50-plus. They love to drink, and they won’t have to drive anywhere. It’s a pretty sweet spot, and there’s already a nice community that’s developed in the building.”
