Gyro Spot, is known for its rich, flavorful, and tender lamb/beef or chicken gyro platter with rice and salad. During a routine inspection on November 10, the Tennessee Department of Health found several health code and sanitation issues at the restaurant.

The restaurant received a low score of 75 and was cited for 15 major violations, including:

  • The official report noted that raw lamb skewers were stored on top of a box of green peppers inside a reach-in cooler, while raw chicken skewers were kept above containers of homemade ranch and an uncovered bowl of vegetables. The person in charge (PIC) was trained on proper storage and was directed to move raw meats to the bottom shelf.
  • According to the official inspection report, the restaurant did not mark the containers of sliced tomatoes, chopped leafy greens, or homemade ranch held for 4 hours with stickers. As per the THPC policy, a red sticker on food items indicating the timing is required to be placed for the 10:30 am-2:30 pm serving period.
  • The inspection report mentioned excessive grease and carbon buildup inside the rotisserie, reach-in cooler, on the back and sides of the fryer, on the back of the flat top grill, in the chest freezer, on the vent hood, and on the floor under the cool line equipment. Fluorescent bulbs on the kitchen ceiling are missing light shields.
  • The official report also observed that 3 chemical spray bottles with foaming liquid were kept under a three-compartment sink without a proper label. The restaurant also lacks a thermometer inside chest freezer 2 or inside the reach-in freezer.
  • The restaurant was flagged for reusing mayonnaise containers and plastic hummus containers to store homemade ranch and raw lamb.
