Freeland is about to get a flavor upgrade with a renewed spot serving cold brews and smoky bites.
The Barnyard Smokehouse and Taproom, owned by Lisa and Samuel Carvey, will open at 5488 Freeland Ave. in the former Greenbank Cidery Spot. The duo also own The Braeburn restaurant in Langley.Â
The Braeburn at The Barnyard launched in 2022, serving up fried chicken from its spot at Penn Core Brewing. By summer 2023, it added the Braeburn Weiner Wagon, a New York–style hot dog cart. When Penn Core closed and GreenBank Cidery moved in, the fried chicken moved to the Langley outpost, while the food truck focused exclusively on the weiner menu, according to the website.
With the cidery moving out, The Barnyard is returning, now featuring a seasonal rooftop deck with elevated views.
The spot will offer casual comfort food, featuring smokehouse sandwiches with a Northwest twist. Every dish will carry a hint of wood-fired flavor from the pellet smoker.
The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board recently approved The Barnyard’s liquor license, according to business filings. Guests can choose from 20 rotating taps.
The smokehouse has not announced an official opening date yet, but check its website and follow along Instagram and Facebook for updates.
