Coco Fuego, a Caribbean-inspired restaurant and bar from Grind & Prosper Hospitality, appears to be opening in Pacific Beach at 832 Garnet Avenue.

The new concept will reportedly occupy the former Backyard Kitchen & Tap space, according to SanDiegoVille. The restaurant is expected to open in 2026, though no official opening dates have been announced. While this has yet to be confirmed by What Now San Diego, Grind & Prosper Hospitality, led by restaurateur Pete Cich, is known for operating several popular San Diego-area concepts, including Miss B’s Coconut Club, Coco Maya, and PB Shore Club.

The location has been the home to several businesses in the past, including Backyard Kitchen & Tap, Moondoggies, and a short-lived Union Kitchen & Tap. SanDiegoVille reports that a planned expansion by American Junkie fell through before Coco Fuego was announced as the new tenant.

Coco Fuego will feature a Caribbean-Latin fusion aesthetic with an emphasis on coal-fired cooking, rum-forward cocktails, and lush greenery. The design will include immersive elements, inspired by the “Tulum-meets-San-Diego” vibe seen at Grind & Prosper’s popular Coco Maya location in Little Italy.

The Pacific Beach location is strategically positioned to bring stability to a space that has seen frequent turnover, with Grind & Prosper looking to leverage the success of its other concepts in the area. The new restaurant will build on the popularity of Miss B’s Coconut Club and Coco Maya, both of which have strong followings in the region.

Grind & Prosper Hospitality is also working on the upcoming launch of Austin NoLa, a New Orleans-inspired restaurant in North Park, adding to its growing portfolio of diverse culinary offerings.
