Bar Chucho is heading to 37 Market Street, according to community board filings. The spot will serve as a taqueria and bar inspired by taquerias in northern Mexico, co-owner Jesse Kranzler told What Now New York.

The menu is still in development, but customers can expect to see classics such as carne asada and carnitas as well as tamales and burritos, according to a proposed menu in the community board filings. The beverage program will feature beer, wine, signature cocktails and nonalcoholic beverages.

The design is still in development and buildout is about to begin. Plans call for 16 tables that will seat 39 and one ten-seat bar.

“It’s a double-height space, so we’re trying to make it feel light and airy like spaces in Mexico City,” Kranzler said. “However, because it’s a bar, we want to make it feel intimate in the evening.”

Proposed hours of operation are 12 p.m. to 2 a.m. daily. The team is aiming for a late winter or early spring opening.

“This area is really good for people in the industry to go out at night, but we’ve noticed there aren’t many options as far as late-night food options,” Kranzler said. “So we want this to be a place that’s casual, accessible and affordable for everyone.”

Kranzler is partnering with Fidel Caballero and Sofia Ostos on the venture. Caballero and Ostos are not new to the local restaurant scene. In 2023, they opened fellow Lower East Side concept Corima, which is a fine-dining Mexican restaurant. They also opened Mexican restaurant Vato in Park Slope in November.
