A Super Burrito is opening in Murray Hill, according to a liquor license permit filed with Manhattan Community Board 6. The forthcoming restaurant is set to open in 495 Third Ave., in a space formerly housing Mazu Szechuan Cuisine.
Super Burrito was founded in by San Francisco natives Eugene Cleghorn and Sam Neely in 2017, when they opened their first location in Rockaway Beach. They subsequently opened locations in Williamsburg and Greenwich. Its Williamsburg location features a speakeasy-like bar toward the back of the restaurant, called 320 Club, opened in partnership with Griffin Harrison and Max Schneider-Schumacher.
Super Burrito serves Cal-Mex food, offering quesadillas, a few tacos and bowls. The star of the show at Super Burrito is its Mission-style burritos, named after the Mission District in San Francisco. Mission burritos feature a flour tortilla steamed for pliability, tasked with holding the rice, beans, jack cheese, salsa and meat — Super Burrito offers poblano peppers if you’re looking for a vegetarian option. Mission burritos are generally considered saucy or even juicy. More importantly, these burritos are big. Wrapped in aluminum, they can look intimidating, demanding that diners dig into their burritos strategically.
Super Burrito has not announced an opening date as of yet.
