A Valentine’s Day fire at a local bar is not stopping the owners from serving the community of Mason.
It is being reported a fire broke out at The Tipsy Nickel Bar & Grille, 117 S Cedar Street, on Feb. 14. This caused significant damage to the side of the building, and no one was injured. A reopening date has not yet been announced.
The Tipsy Nickel is owned by Dansville locals Tim and Miya Warvel, and managed by their son, Brandy. The family bought the business in 2023 following their success with Wooden Nickel II restaurant in Dansville. Tim told What Now Detroit he is glad it was not a total loss, and the team is absorbing staff at their Wooden Nickel location.
“The glass is half full,” Tim said.
At around 7 p.m. on Feb. 14, the fire broke out on S Cedar Street. From reports, the cause of the fire is still ongoing. Pictures show smoke and flames erupting out of the sides of the roof.
The bar is on the east side of S Cedar Street, next to Body Reflections Salon and across from Marco’s Pizza. This is a few blocks away from downtown Mason. A city of about 8,300 people, Mason is just south of Lansing,
It wouldn’t be a bar and grille if food items weren’t served. The spot has become known for serving pastas, tacos and signature burgers like the PB&J, with cheddar cheese, maple bacon jam, peanut butter and caramelized onion on a pretzel bun. Less calorie-heavy options are also available including salads and flatbreads.
From the Lansing State Journal article, the restaurant will remain closed until the building can be fully repaired. For more information on Tipsy Nickel and the estimated reopening date, visit their Facebook page.
