A favored burger spot in the city is closed, but not for long.
The owners or Black Napkin at 996 Fulton Street East are temporarily pausing operations while the restaurant undergoes a major expansion. This includes additional seating in the front and more kitchen space. Right now, the restaurant is set to close from Aug. 1 to Aug. 19.
The project starts with some demolition to knock out some walls while we are closed. And our crew is getting some much deserved time off,” says the recent post from Black Napkin.
The restaurant was opened in October 2022 by entrepreneurs Korin Hollinshead and Jason Richardson. At Black Napkin, Richard serves as executive chef, and Hollinshead is also the co-owner of Any Colour You Like popsicle business running in the city. The two had the idea to create a brick-and-mortar after five years of selling the popsicles.
Both owners take pride in their business being known as one of the best burger spots in Grand Rapids. Their smash burgers are the main draw, with sizes ranging from one patty to three. The restaurant also serves buttermilk chicken sandwiches, accompanied by battered french fries and their house-made sodas.
Black Napkin is at the intersection of Fulton Street SE and Diamond Avenue SE. This is close to Little Africa Cuisine on the same side of the street, and across from Dirty Plate Bistro in the East Hills neighborhood.
