A new cafe near Grand Circus Park is in the works.

The Yellow Light Coffee & Donuts team is eying a new location downtown at 242 John R Street. This comes from a recent permit filing, and would be their third location, the first right in downtown. It has not yet been announced by the team.

Owners Christine Driscoll and Niko Dimitrijevic have their two coffee and donut spots both in city limits, one at 14447 Jefferson Avenue and the other at 2001 15th Street Suite 101, at Michigan Central Station. Their Jefferson location first debuted in January 2020, near the border of Grosse Pointe Park.

Yellow Light sells its own coffee both at the cafes and in bags for retail. Drip coffee, lattes, mochas and cappuccinos are served at both cafes. The popular donut flavors include vanilla bean, chocolate, birthday cake and key lime, and biscuit sandwiches are also prepared.

The possible new location is at the corner of John R and Center Streets, across from Detroit Opera House. Other restaurants nearby include Jose’s Tacos and Fixins Soul Kitchen. This is also a short walk from Comerica Park and Ford Field.

What Now Detroit is awaiting comment from the owners on the timeline for opening the new location. More updates on Yellow Light Coffee can be found on business’ Facebook and Instagram pages.
