Three years after opening, the owners are again looking at a new site.
Kitab Cafe is expanding after success in Midtown, with a new application for space at 1260 Library Street. The cafe already operates as a coffee shop and bookstore in Hamtramck as well. Owner Ahmed Alwhysee told What Now Detroit he does not yet have an opening date as it is early in the permitting process.
Alwhysee owns the chain with his wife, Asma Almulaiki, and they first debuted their Hamtramck location in 2023 at 2727 Holbrook. From there, the team opened their Midtown spot in 2024 at 422 W Willis Street, offering many of the same coffee and book options. This marks their third location in Metro Detroit.
The cafe is a popular Midtown option for coffee, with creations like the cookie butter latte and cinnamon roll latte. For food, the kitchen serves egg & cheese bagels, a caprese sandwich and breakfast sandwich to name a few handhelds. Many of the same options can be expected at the upcoming location.
The storefront is next to Mootz Pizzeria + Bar, and across from Library Park. This is also close to Vincente’s Cuban Cuisine, and the Gucci Library Street location. The area is considered the north end of downtown.
When more information is available, Alwhysee and the team will be providing more information on the new downtown location on their website or social media pages.
