The Philadelphia health department conducted several health inspections in the area on March 31. Among them, P’unk Burger was found in violation of several health codes during the routine check.

P’unk Burger is a contemporary neighborhood spot serving organic, locally sourced burgers in Philadelphia. According to the report, the eatery was found to be non-compliant with the food safety codes. The violations were:
- Old food residue, dishes, and utensils were found in the hand-wash sink. The sink was cleaned and sanitized during the inspection, and proper usage was reviewed with the person in charge.
- The report said the paper towel dispenser was empty, and no handwashing reminder sign was posted. Batteries were replaced in the dispenser, and appropriate signage was installed.
- The food preparation sink was unclean and was being used to store chemicals. Items were removed, and the sink was cleaned and sanitized.
- No chemical sanitizer was being used on equipment and utensils after washing. The facility did not have sanitizer on-site, but bleach was obtained during the inspection to address the issue, the report stated.
- The can opener had visible food residue buildup. It was cleaned and sanitized on-site.
- Loose rodent bait was found under the 3-compartment sink and must be stored in tamper-resistant containers, the report mentioned.
- Mouse droppings were seen in multiple areas, including the point-of-sale area, upstairs storage, and under bread storage.
- Moist wiping cloths were left on prep surfaces instead of being stored in a sanitizing solution.

- Knives and cleavers were stored between table edges, making them difficult to clean and sanitize properly.
- Several equipment issues were noted, including missing and damaged kickplates on refrigerators and damaged gaskets on a cold prep unit.
- A cutting board with deep scratches was observed, according to the report.
- Ice buildup was seen inside chest freezers, and additional rodent droppings were found along storage shelving.
- A leak was observed at the food prep sink faucet, and the drain overflowed when the garbage grinder was used.
- Hood filters had a buildup of grease and dust, indicating the need for cleaning, the report stated.
- A light fixture above the warewashing area was not functioning.

Follow-up Inspection

According to the report, P’unk Burger must eliminate the violations, and the compliance status will be assessed during the reinspection. The eatery needs to provide a valid food license to operate its food establishment.
