Firehouse Subs, a fast-casual sandwich chain known for its hot specialty subs, is getting ready to open a new location in Toronto at 14 York Street.
The company’s new location is set to open on April 23 and will serve customers in a busy downtown corridor near Scotiabank Arena and Rogers Centre, according to 6ix Retail. Local franchisee Amit Seth will operate the location. Customers can expect a full menu of hot and cold subs, along with catering options and combo meals.
Firehouse Subs has been growing quickly in downtown Toronto, opening multiple locations in less than two years. Last year, the company shared plans to add six new restaurants across the city. This newest opening helps fill what General Manager Sam Gallant described as a gap in the brand’s downtown coverage, according to the publication.
The downtown expansion is part of a broader national growth strategy. Firehouse Subs has increased its Canadian footprint from 112 to about 180 locations and is targeting an additional 60 to 70 openings across the country in 2026. Around 40 percent of those are planned for Ontario, with about half slated for Western Canada. The company is backed by Restaurant Brands International.
Firehouse Subs was founded by brothers Chris Sorensen and Robin Sorensen, who come from a background in fire and police service. The brand has grown to more than 1,450 locations and is known for steaming its meats and cheeses before serving them on toasted sub rolls. Its menu includes hot specialty subs like the Hook and Ladder, build-your-own sandwiches, salads, sides, and kids’ combos.
This new downtown location reflects a shift toward smaller urban store formats, typically around 800 square feet. The York Avenue restaurant is designed to serve takeout and delivery orders while accommodating steady foot traffic from commuters and eventgoers. The company is also promoting mobile ordering through its app, offering discounts and loyalty rewards.
