A father and son duo have big plans to bring a vacant Memphis bar space back to life. Teddy Jasper and his father are opening the evocatively-named Spoken For in the storefront that housed Longshot until its closure almost two years ago, and it is poised to become the neighborhood’s next great watering hole, reports Daily Memphian.
Spoken For will be occupying a 4,500 square foot space located at 477 S. Main Street. The concept will have multiple quadrant appeal certain to draw in a wide and varied audience. Jasper generously described the vision for Spoken For to What Now Memphis as: “We’re bringing together the accessibility of a dive bar, the familiarity of a neighborhood spot, and the quality of a cocktail bar, without making it feel exclusive or transactional.”
While the drinks and atmosphere will be Spoken For’s primary focus, the bar will also offer a limited menu featuring dishes including smash burgers.
Jasper and his team are planning to honor the cozy and welcoming vibes established by Longshot, including maintaining basic coloration within the bar and potentially resurrecting the shuffleboards-though future regulars should temper their expectations on that front. While Jasper is holding onto the shuffleboards and not writing off the possibility of utilizing them to some extent in the future, their comeback is not forgeone.
Once customer-ready, Spoken For will be open 7 days a week, with projected operating hours of 4 pm to 1:30 am.
Memphis won’t have to wait much longer to enjoy a drink at its next favorite bar; Jasper states that Spoken For is awaiting its alcohol license and is on deck for an early summer opening. And what better way to beat the heat than in “a neighborhood craft cocktail bar built for people who want a place they can rely on.”
