Great Wall Buffet to Close After 20 Years in Augusta
Great Wall Buffet is popular for serving one of the largest Asian buffets in the area. It features seven buffet bars with a wide selection of Chinese, Japanese, and American comfort foods.
Some of the popular items on the menu include a variety of noodles and fried rice, curry chicken, and Hunan chicken. The buffet also includes a range of vegetarian dishes with traditional Asian flavors.
Through a social media post, the restaurant team shared the heartbreaking news of its closure. The team behind the restaurant said, “After 20 incredible years, we, Great Wall Buffet, will be closing our doors. Our last day of operation will be on April 20th.”
In the post, the restaurant team thanked the community for its support over the years. “We want to take this time to extend a thank you to the community we’ve had the opportunity to serve for all these years. During our time here, it has been an honor to see children grow up, people come together, and milestones celebrated,” the team said.
New Plans for Property Lead to the Closure
According to a WYCC report, the landlord of the Great Wall Buffet building has plans to redevelop the space. “That real estate recently changed hands, and the new ownership has different plans for the spot,” stated the report.

Officials have not shared details about what will replace the restaurant. However, the report mentions, “The building and surrounding land where Great Wall Buffet currently sits will reportedly be transformed into a housing FGC location offering sober living for those in recovery.”
Following the closure announcement, loyal fans of the Great Wall Buffet shared emotional messages on social media. One of the customers commented, “My heart is breaking, I used to have birthday parties there as a kid….I hope you guys can find a place to relocate to. Life won’t be the same without our great wall trips.”
As the final days approach, the Great Wall Buffet team hopes to celebrate its final chapter with the Augusta community. The closure of the restaurant will leave a noticeable gap in the Maine dining scene.
