What Now has been reporting since March of last year on plans by The Floridian to relocate in St. Augustine, as well as to open a new spinoff restaurant called Bea’s. But now, word is out that the Floridian’s former home, at 72 Spanish Street, is getting a new life as Pepper’s Cocina Mexicana & Tequila Bar prepares to take over the old Floridian space.

This week, What Now came across plan review paperwork submitted by La Joya 13 Inc for a new Peppers Cocina Mexicana at that address.

With locations in Fernandina Beach, Fleming Island, and St. Johns, Pepper’s Cocina Mexicana serves up menus featuring appetizers like Ceviche Mixto and Queso Fundido; authentic tacos with proteins like carnitas, al pastor, and Baja fish or shrimp; House Specials like Sizzling Fajitas (served with chicken, steak, or shrimp); and more.

“Pepper’s is a family-owned local business serving only the finest quality Mexican food made fresh every day with an extensive Tequila collection, and full bar,” says the Pepper’s website. “We have three locations throughout the Jacksonville area with outdoor patios, providing the perfect place for families or a date night.”

Soon, this family business will increase that number to four locations!
