Matthieu Pepper, a Quebec comedian, actor, and screenwriter, is opening a new bagel shop in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve focused on bagels, coffee, and sandwiches.
The project was announced on Pepper’s Instagram account and reported by Silo57. While an exact opening timeline has not been confirmed, the venture will be led alongside five experienced business partners who will handle much of the operational side. Pepper has been clear that he is not an entrepreneur by trade and is leaning on his partners to help bring the concept to life.
The concept is not intended to compete directly with established Montreal bagel institutions such as St-Viateur Bagel or Fairmount Bagel. Instead, Pepper has said the goal is to offer something different from traditional bagel shop formats in the city. The focus is more on creating a relaxed environment where people can stay, work, or socialize, rather than a purely grab-and-go operation.
Pepper is also launching a YouTube channel to document the entire process of opening the shop. He has described the project in a self-aware, humorous way, stating that he has “no idea what he’s doing” while inviting people to follow along as the business develops. The content is expected to run alongside the buildout and early stages of the shop.
Menu offerings will center on bagels with coffee and simple sandwich options, designed for both quick service and longer visits. The space will also function as a casual hangout and work-friendly environment, reflecting a café-style model rather than a traditional bakery counter setup.
