A New York City pizza staple is planting deeper roots in Greater Boston.
Joe’s Pizza is set to open its second local outpost at 1363 Boylston St in Boston’s Fenway neighborhood, reports Boston Restaurant Talk. Plans for the space include a service counter, indoor seating, and a year-round patio, according to a recent licensing board agenda page.
Founded in 1975 by Naples native Joe Pozzuoli, Joe’s Pizza has long been considered a Greenwich Village institution, serving up classic New York-style slices for over five decades. What began as a single neighborhood shop has grown into a multi-state operation, with nine existing locations across New York, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Florida.
The casual counter-serve spot is known for its straightforward, crowd-pleasing menu, including cheese, pepperoni, supreme, veggie, and caprese pies. Partner Ian Lafkowitz told What Now Boston that the Fenway location will stay true to that formula, with one small regional tweak: fresh mozzarella will be sourced from Vermont instead of New York.
The 1,900-square-foot space has already undergone a full renovation, Lafkowitz said, adding that the Boston expansion is especially meaningful for the team. “Some of the Joe’s family has spent significant time in Boston after immigrating there in the early ’60s before moving to NYC in the early ’70s,” he shared. “So there’s a deep connection and love with Boston.”
Joe’s Pizza is expected to open in the Fenway by early June 2026, with daily hours starting at 10 a.m. and running as late as 1 a.m., with plans to extend to 2 or 3 a.m. over time. In the meantime, eager locals can grab a slice at the brand’s existing Cambridge location.
