Customizable bags and even Detroit Tigers-themed merchandise will be sold at a storefront downtown.
The owners of Vilah Bloom are making their Motor City debut this year at 1435 Farmer Street in Parker’s Alley. It follows the success of their locations in Walloon Lake and Traverse City. Co-owner Jackie Garrett told What Now Detroit the team is hoping to open around Memorial Day weekend, with plans to open a franchise opportunity in the future.
Garrett started the business 16 years ago, and opened the Walloon location in 2024. Originally from the Boyne City–Petoskey area, she started the concept as a direct-to-consumer business for customizable handbags, clothing items and accessories. Seeing the foot traffic in downtown Detroit, Garrett knew this would be a great opportunity for her business.
“It’s been kind of a long time coming,” Garrett said.
Garrett said at the new location, guests will be able to customize the bag straps at their “Bag Bar.” Those decorating the straps can attach charms, and there are plans for Tigers-themed apparel on the straps. Many of the same items at other stores including jewelry, diaper straps and keychains can
The store is under construction on the west side of Farmer Street, close to Comerica Park where the Detroit Tigers play. The Aroma Labs perfume store is also at this stretch of stores. Restaurants on this side of the street Penny Red’s and The Brakeman beer hall.
Garrett said the space will be able to accommodate events such as bachelorette parties, graduation parties and corporate events. She will be providing opening updates for the community on the Vilah Bloom Instagram page.
