The hospitality team behind the Manhattan gastropubs Grove Street Social and Grand Street Social are planning a new concept called Clake & Moore Kitchen and Bar for 201 8th Ave. in Chelsea. According to a permit filing with Community Board 4, Clarke & Moore will continue the theme of providing elevated pub food in a social setting, with the main goal of serving residents and workers in the neighborhood. A sample menu listed different sections for starters, salads, entrees, and sandwiches and burgers. While the menu also listed signature cocktails, the permit filing said wine and beer would also be available. An opening date has not been announced, and What Now New York has reached out for more information.

The name Clake & Moore is partly inspired by British Revolutionary War officer Major Thomas Clarke, whose family owned the Manhattan estate “Chelsea” — after which the modern neighborhood is named. It’s also inspired by Clarke’s grandson Clement Clarke Moore, author of “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas”. Furthermore, a large section of the gastropub’s menu is dedicated to a latter-day New Yorker: Anthony Bourdain.

While the first floor will be a sit-down restaurant with 49-person seating capacity, the second floor will be a private event space with seating for 74 guests. The filing said the second floor might also be used as additional dining space on busy days.
