A familiar name in Greater Boston’s pan-Asian dining scene is expanding in the North Shore.
According to a recent social media announcement from Peabody Mayor Edward A. Bettencourt, ShoYu Restaurant & Bar is preparing to open a new location in downtown Peabody at 12 Peabody Square, taking over the former Century Bank building.
The news is corroborated by recently filed permitting documents and the restaurant’s Google Business page, which lists the location as “temporarily closed.”
The Peabody outpost will mark the fourth location for ShoYu, which already operates in Saugus, Andover, and Boston’s Chinatown. The chain has become known for its expansive pan-Asian menu that blends Chinese and Japanese staples with broader regional influences.
As the restaurant describes it, guests can expect “a pan-Asian banquet” that stretches across regions and flavor profiles, ranging from familiar comfort dishes to more inventive fusion plates.
The menu features a variety of classic and creative sushi rolls, noodle stir-fries, rice bowls, soups, seafood dishes, tofu offerings, and Thai-inspired selections. Standout items include Mayonnaise Shrimp with Walnut, Beef Brisket Chow Fun, and General Gau’s Hot Chicken.
Local entrepreneur Michael Mei is behind the concept. In addition to the forthcoming ShoYu restaurant, recent licensing documents reveal that he is also developing a new concept called Culinary Pizza & Subs in Braintree.
