A new workout spot is coming soon to Myrtle Beach.
Pure Pilates, owned by Mandi Martin, is set to open at 314 79th Ave. N., offering reformer Pilates classes.
“We’re just super excited to get up and going and to bring pilates right in the heart of Myrtle Beach. It’s right down from the ocean, you can walk there. We have great health food stores around. It’s just a great fit,” Martin told What Now Charleston.
The name reflects Pilates as a pure, foundational form of exercise, something Martin closely identifies with.
“I had a life-changing surgery in 2020. I was a collegiate athlete, and I was basically looking for something that could help me recover, and that was Pilates for me. Then I decided to get certified to develop a greater practice for myself,” she said.
The interior is designed to feel inviting and relaxing.
“It’s very neutral, natural tone on tone, white, taupe, gray. It’s just very relaxing, calming and therapeutic,” she said.
From first-time participants to dedicated Pilates enthusiasts, the studio offers classes for every experience level.
The reformer studio features a tiered class schedule designed to meet a range of fitness levels and goals, organized into three skill levels: Foundations, Intermediate and Advanced, along with four specialty workouts. Cardio uses a jumpboard for low-impact endurance training, Control emphasizes slow, isometric movement, Align focuses on gentle mobility and recovery, and Sculpt delivers a fast-paced, high-intensity athletic workout.
“I think a lot of people are intimidated by the reformer, but basically it is just a modality that is able to strengthen your local stabilizers versus larger groups and really fine-tune your muscle movements, just to be able to stretch, to strengthen, to align, without the wear and tear that sometimes we go through in other forms of exercise,” Martin said.
Martin looks forward to helping people on their fitness journeys and joining the community.
“I’m just excited to be able to help other people. The thing I love about Pilates is you can be a 70-year-old and a 20-year-old on the same machine. I think it’s great when you have different generations looking to each other and building upon each other,” she said. “I’m excited for our community to experience it, to have a place where you can be strong and realize your health is the greatest wealth.
