Puff Coffee is preparing to open its second Portland location this summer, taking over a space that was associated with one of the city’s original and most popular coffee shops, Stumptown Coffee Roasters. The new cafe is planned for 3356 S.E. Belmont St. and is expected to open in July, according to OregonLive.

The location holds historical significance in Portland’s coffee scene, having served as one of Stumptown Coffee’s early cafes during the company’s rise in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Duane Sorenson, who originally founded Stumptown Coffee Roasters on Southeast Division Street in 1999, expanded to Belmont Street 2 years later. And then it would become one of the most influential specialty coffee brands in the country, later opening locations in Seattle, New York, Chicago, New Orleans, and Los Angeles.

Sorenson later launched Puff Coffee and opened its first cafe in 2022 at 2816 S.E. Stark Street. The upcoming Belmont location will mark Puff Coffee’s second cafe and another step into what would be a massive expansion across Oregon State and maybe the whole country.

The Belmont neighborhood has long been known as one of Portland’s busiest food and coffee corridors, filled with independent restaurants, bars, boutiques, and longtime local businesses. While additional details about the new cafe’s menu and design have not yet been announced, Puff Coffee is expected to continue focusing on specialty coffee and a more community cafe atmosphere as it prepares for its summer opening.
