A Yemeni coffee shop is expanding across the country and will open its first location in California in late summer. Their name is Bayt Al Mocha, and it will be operated by Rayna Al-Shaybani and her husband, Saeed Al-Shaybani, who moved to the Sacramento area about four years ago. Rayna confirmed to What Now Sacramento that the café is planned for 6306 Garfield Avenue, Unit 250, inside the Greenback Corners shopping center.
Bayt Al Mocha, which means “House of Mocha” in Arabic, is a Michigan-based Yemeni coffee franchise inspired by the historic port city of Mocha, Yemen, known worldwide for its coffee trade. The brand already operates locations across states, including Michigan, Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina, Kentucky, and New York.
The café is expected to offer traditional coffee and pastries with a more modern approach. Plans currently call for a roughly 1,500-square-foot space that will also include a patio area designed to create a more friendly atmosphere. Visitors can expect rich aromas of freshly ground beans, setting the stage for an authentic, sensory-driven experience, and the unique flavors of traditional drinks like Mufawar or Qishr.
The opening also continues a recent trend of Middle Eastern coffee brands expanding throughout the Sacramento region. Several concepts, including Haraz Coffee House, Qamaria Yemeni Coffee Co., and Mâtari Coffee according to the Sacramento Business Journal, have either recently opened or announced plans to enter the local market as Sacramento’s multicultural coffee scene continues growing.
