A new dining concept appears to be moving into a prominent Downtown Crossing address, bringing fresh energy to a space that recently went dark.

Boston Chops, which shuttered both of its locations in early 2026, is set to be replaced by a new restaurant called The Exchange at 52 Temple Place, according to a report from Boston Restaurant Talk (via the Boston Business Journal).

Behind the upcoming concept is New Hampshire-based NNE Hospitality Group, which also operates The Puddle Dock in Portsmouth. That restaurant is known for its craft cocktails and contemporary colonial-inspired comfort fare, serving dishes such as Seared Jumbo Scallops, Steak & Potatoes, and Spring Chicken Pie.

While details about The Exchange remain limited for now, the two-floor Temple Place space features marble-clad walls, soaring vaulted ceilings, and tufted leather seating that creates a distinctly upscale atmosphere. It is not yet clear whether those design elements will remain at the new concept, or if the space will be reimagined entirely.

The development comes amid a wave of change in Downtown Crossing, including another planned transformation nearby: the current French Quarter space is set to become a new restaurant and cocktail bar inspired by the Garden of Eden.

The Boston Business Journal article mentions that The Exchange could debut sometime in 2026. What Now Boston has reached out to NNE Hospitality Group for additional details on the restaurant and will share updates as they become available.
