Life’s Grind, the independent coffee shop that has become a community staple in Galt, is heading to Elk Grove. Co-owner Gurdeep Bains is planning to open the café’s second location at 8940 Elk Grove Blvd by the first week of July, with eyes on growing the brand to four total locations across the Sacramento area. Marking this, his brand’s first expansion outside of its hometown.
The new 1,500-square-foot space will feel familiar to anyone who’s been to the Galt original. Imagine community tables, sofa seating, and a welcoming atmosphere designed for lingering. The menu will mirror what’s worked in Galt: coffee drinks, mushroom coffee, matcha, smoothies, pastries, sandwiches, power bowls, and avocado toast, with acai bowls added exclusively for the Elk Grove crowd.
According to the Sacramento Business Journal, the story behind Life’s Grind is one of those quiet Sacramento success stories that doesn’t get enough attention. The café started life about six years ago as a franchise location of the chain It’s A Grind before being bought by Bains, who rebranded it, overhauled the menu and logo, and eventually renamed it Life’s Grind to fully break from its franchise past. He runs the business alongside his niece, Kjit Mahil.
Down the line, Bains also hopes to open a Life’s Grind roastery, a project he’s already been preparing for by learning the craft of coffee roasting himself.
