Neptune Sushi, a new sushi restaurant, is getting ready to open in San Diego at 3015 Adams Avenue.
The company’s new location is set to move into the former home of Tajima North Park, which closed after nearly 10 years of serving the neighborhood. Owner Dillon Berkabile tells What Now San Diego the restaurant is expected to open in about two months. Customers can expect a menu centered on modern sushi and hand rolls, drawing inspiration from the flavors of Asia and Latin America.
Neptune is owned by Berkabile, Michael Harrison, and Justice Horden, with Executive Chef Taylor Preus leading the culinary program. Although the concept was originally envisioned as a modern temaki-style hand roll bar, the team says it has evolved into something much broader. Rather than focusing on a single style of cuisine, the restaurant aims to serve dishes that are fresh, creative, and constantly evolving.
The ownership group has also put considerable thought into the restaurant’s design. Much of the space features locally sourced reclaimed wood and handcrafted elements that were built or restored specifically for the project. The owners say Neptune’s name has influenced both the layout and many of the design details, although much of the space will remain a surprise until opening day.
This will be an excellent landing space for Neptune Sushi, given North Park’s established dining scene and steady foot traffic. The neighborhood continues to attract new independent restaurant concepts, making it a popular destination for both residents and visitors. Neptune’s ownership hopes the restaurant becomes known for its three pillars of success: exceptional service, memorable ambiance, and incredible food.
“If I had to give Neptune a singular identity, I couldn’t,” Executive Chef Taylor Preus said in a news release. “We don’t want to be confined to one thing. Neptune is simply going to be a place where we serve what is delicious, fresh, and creative.”
