A local artisan pasta maker is preparing to open its first-ever retail storefront.

After nearly three decades of supplying fresh pasta to restaurants, hotels, caterers, and chefs across Greater Boston and Southern New England, Maria’s Gourmet Pasta is opening its first brick-and-mortar retail shop at 245 Ferry Street in Malden.

According to a recent social media announcement, the storefront is currently under construction and is expected to open in September 2026.

“After 30 years of selling wholesale to restaurants only, we can’t wait to start sharing our fresh pasta and ravioli with the you, general public,” the team shared on Instagram. “Keep checking in to stay updated. We’re looking forward to seeing everybody soon!”

Founded in 1999 by Libearto “Libby” Mancaniello, who immigrated from Avellino, Italy at age four and grew up in Boston’s North End, Maria’s Gourmet Pasta specializes in handcrafted, small-batch pasta. The company’s wholesale offerings include specialty ravioli, tortellini, gnocchi, cavatelli, vegan options, and other Italian favorites.

Mancaniello’s passion for pasta began while he was still in school, making deliveries for a local pasta company. Eager to move from deliveries into the kitchen, he set out to make fresh pasta from scratch each morning using treasured family recipes passed down from his mother, Maria—the company’s namesake.

That commitment to quality and tradition remains at the heart of the business today. “Today, we still enjoy experimenting with new ingredients and flavor combinations,” reads the company website. “When you taste Maria’s Gourmet Pasta, you’ll know how much effort and how much craft we put into each bite.”

The new Malden storefront will give home cooks an opportunity to purchase the company’s handcrafted pasta directly from the source instead of finding it exclusively through restaurants and other wholesale partners.

Mancaniello told What Now Boston he plans to share additional details about the new retail shop next week, including what customers can expect when it opens, so keep an eye out for updates.
