IKEA will permanently close its location at The Domain in Austin. The Austin-based location is ready to wrap up its services within two years of opening.
IKEA to Cease Operations at The Domain this August
According to the official website, the company is shutting down its Austin store on August 30, 2026. Unlike a traditional IKEA store, the location operates as a “Plan and order point with pick-up.”
IKEA said the decision supports its efforts to improve affordability, sustainability, and accessibility for customers across the U.S. The company said it will continue investing in home delivery, online shopping, and pickup options while exploring new ways for customers to interact with the brand.
As per the Austin American-Statesman, this location opened at 3306 Esperanza Crossing nearly two years ago.
The closure does not affect the furniture brand’s outlets in Round Rock and Best Buy South Austin.
The announcement adds that customers can finish their planning projects before the shopping mall outlet closes. Customers can also continue their projects at another IKEA location.
Closure Comes Amid Plans to Expand
The announcement comes months after IKEA outlined plans to expand its U.S. footprint through new store formats and improved customer access. The company previously announced new locations in University Park, Rockwall, and Houston-Webster, among other Texas markets.
IKEA also announced planned locations in Los Angeles, Chicago, Fort Collins, Tulsa, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C.
While the Domain location is closing, IKEA continues to move forward with its broader U.S. expansion plans. The company has said it plans to continue expanding with new store formats across Texas and other states.
