A family-owned North Carolina donut shop is bringing something sweet to Charleston this fall.
Britt’s Donut Shop, owned by Melinda Nivens Prusa, will open at 32 N. Market St., according to an Instagram announcement.
“When we first walked into this historic Charleston building, it felt familiar. It felt like home. We knew this was where we were meant to continue the story. It’s about family, legacy, and the two people whose love and hard work built something far greater than a donut shop,” the post read.
H.L. Britt opened Britt’s Donuts in 1939, and the shop moved to its current Carolina Beach boardwalk location in 1969. Bobby and Maxine Nivens have owned the business for more than 50 years, serving made-from-scratch glazed donuts, making Britt’s a longtime local favorite.
The shop has earned numerous accolades over the years, including a spot among the nation’s top 10 donut shops.

“Our hope is simply to give another community the chance to make the same memories that families have been making at Britt’s for generations. We can’t wait to welcome you to Charleston this fall while continuing to serve you in Carolina Beach,” the post read.
The shop is on track to open in October.
While it remains unclear whether the Charleston location will follow the same schedule, the Carolina Beach shop operates daily from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
